Friday we went to Dingle, also renowned for its traditional music and that most people speak Gaelic. We got to see a concert in a church and then went to a pub. The music here really is amazing!! We even got to hear ueillian pipes (pronounced ilin).
We spent our last day in Ireland driving back east. I have been the driver and it has been harrowing!! The roads are narrow and have lots of potholes, the Irish drivers tailgate and tend to drive fast in the middle of the road, even coming around bends, and they park in the road. Some of the roads narrow in spaces, so that two cars won't fit and someone has to pause for the other person to get through. This has meant that I have sometimes seen a lot of the road and little of the scenery.
We went to Newgrange today. It is a passage tomb from 3200 B.C.E. We got to go inside and the carvings are remarkable (this picture is of me and my sister outside). We also went to Tara, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. It is also a passage tomb, but hasn't been excavated. We stood next to the Stone of Destiny.
Tomorrow we leave for York for a couple of days.
